About Us
Previous air shows at Tauranga City Airport have been run by the Sports Aircraft Association of New Zealand [SAANZ] as an extension of their Annual General Meeting, held every two years in the New Zealand North Island.
SAANZ saw that opportunity existed to develop the air show into a major attraction that would benefit tourism and entertainment in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty generally, however with a nation wide membership this was beyond their resources.
The involvement of Classic Flyers NZ, a private trust with a well established Aircraft Museum, Café and Conference Centre at Tauranga Airport, was a logical move when the resources of Classic Flyers include both experienced staff and a very active voluntary membership resident in the Bay.
It would not be possible to hold an air show without a high quality venue. The Tauranga City Council recognised the potential value of the event to the Bay of Plenty region as a whole and has pledged their support by providing the areas of their airport necessary to run the Show.
Classic Flyers has gained the services and business experience of the Rotary Club of Tauranga Te Papa in organising the trade exhibit and family fun aspects of the air show. With an expected head count of 25,000 visitors and reasonable site cost prime business marketing opportunities certainly exist.
The Radio Network Tauranga is using their medium to publicise the air show not only in an advertising sense but also to provide topical interviews with some of the experienced air show people who will provide full on flying entertainment.
There are many other organisations and people who have or are poised to contribute to our Air Show. We will strive to acknowledge them on this website as final preparations proceed.
This then is the start of the Tauranga City Air Show 2010. The firm intention of the organisers is to hold the show at least every two years, to earn both NZ wide and international recognition as a high quality aviation event that is also family friendly.
We look forward to seeing you in the sunny Bay of Plenty.
Sincerely
Andrew Gormlie, CEO, Classic Flyers NZ Bill Sisley, President, Sports Aircraft Association of NZ
